Nate Simpson had always sung, but it wasn’t until he reached secondary school that he decided to pursue a music career. “A friend of mine was round my house and he overheard me singing a John Legend song. He said I had a good voice and I should do it professionally. The next day he told everyone at school, and they were all hounding me trying to get me to sing.”
Nate’s many musical influences include Stevie Wonder, Prince, Nat King Cole, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin and Prince, who he thinks is “next level.” In his gigs, he usually performs Purple Rain, but his all-time favourite Prince song is Diamonds and Pearls. He’s also a big Luther Vandross fan. “Luther’s got a storytelling voice, and such natural musical sensibility. He’s my ultimate male singer by far.”
