Our eighth exhibition of images is by acclaimed photographer Jillian Edelstein who was born and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. Her portraits have appeared in many publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair and Vogue. She has worked on campaigns for Comic Relief, The National Theatre, EMI, UNICEF and The Royal Shakespeare Company and has exhibited in prestigious venues such as The National Portrait Gallery. Over the course of her career Edelstein has received several awards including the Kodak UK Young Photographer of the Year in 1986, the Visa d’Or at the International Festival of Photojournalism in Perpignan in 1997 and the John Kobal Book Award in 2003 to name but a few, setting her firmly amongst the best in the business.

Between 1996 and 2002 Edelstein returned to South Africa frequently to document the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Her award-winning book Truth and Lies, shot in large format, was published by Granta in 2002. Her photographs have been exhibited internationally at venues including the National Portrait Gallery, The Photographers' Gallery, The Royal Academy New Art Space, the Tom Blau Gallery in London, the Recontres Internationales de la Photographie in Arles, France, the Bensusan Museum, Johannesburg, Robben Island Museum in Cape Town, South Africa and at Dali International Photography Festival.

The current exhibition at Quaglino’s, entitled ‘A Few Portraits’ includes some of the many portraits of icons that Jillian has taken over the years and with its iconic history, Quaglino’s has over the years welcomed many icons from royalty, rock stars, high society and since 1929, has always been synonymous with risqué glamour and fashionable trends. Edelstein’s exhibition ‘A Few Portraits’ encapsulates the calibre of guests and icons that Quaglino’s has over the years welcomed through the doors and with some truly exciting exhibitions and projects lined up for the rest 2013, Quaglino’s is privileged to host Edelstein’s work as part of the Photography at Quaglino’s series.
