After graduating with a First Class Honours Degree from University College London in 1992, our Head Sommelier, Bavand Foroughi, went to work in the restaurant industry and this is where his love for wine started…
It was whilst working for the De Vere Group at Belton Woods Hotel in Lincolnshire that he realised his passion for wine, when he was given responsibility of the wines and wine service by the Restaurant Manager.
From there he moved to Manchester working in both retail and hospitality, spending the next 9 years of his career here. During this time he took the opportunity to build up my wine knowledge by enrolling on courses through the Wine & Spirit Educational Trust – Graduating with the WSET Diploma in 2003.
After having worked at various establishments in Manchester, including three and half years at the Wine Shop at Selfridges in The Trafford Centre and three years as Sommelier and wine buyer for the Rocco Forte Lowry Hotel he decided that his heart belong back in London.
His next five years were spent working for Gordon Ramsay Holdings. Starting as Senior Sommelier at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s and working through the ranks to become Head Sommelier at the Savoy Grill in September 2012.
Bringing us to September 2014 , when we welcomed him to the D&D London team, for the preopening of Quaglinos!
